Monster rolls for little monsters

  1. Turn 2 simple ham and/or cheese rolls into something more fun for fright night. You'll need 2 Edam cheese slices to craft the eyeballs and teeth.
  2. At the end of each cheese slice, cut 2 circles (about 2cm in diameter) and set these aside for step 5. Then cut one side of each slice into jagged teeth. Place these into 2 large soft bread rolls with the teeth sticking out, and top with 2 slices wafer-thin cooked ham, if using.
  3. Cut 4 thin circles from a carrot, then cut a 5cm long piece from the remaining carrot. Slice this into thin sections and cut into slim pointy diamond shapes for the horns and extra fangs.
  4. Then take half a cucumber and cut 4 batons for eyebrows. Slice the rest of the cucumber, setting aside 4 slices for the eyes, and put the rest inside the rolls. Also, slice 1 pitted black olive into 4.
  5. Now to put the monster face together! Lay the cucumber circles in the middle of the rolls. On top of these, layer a carrot circle, a cheese circle and an olive slice. Secure onto the roll with half a cocktail stick and secure the cucumber baton eyebrows with more cocktail sticks. Put the carrot horns and fangs into the rolls by piercing the bread with one pointed end of the diamond. Remember to remove the cocktail sticks before eating.
