Description

Dry White WineOur Grande Cuvée Tradition is made from the historical and rare grapes which characterise the Saint Mont vineyard: Gros Manseng, Petit Courbu and Arrufiac. Selected from cooler vineyard plots, this light, crisp wine offers intense floral aromas followed on the palate by citrus and ripe peach flavours mixed with subtle notes of dried fruit. Enjoy at 8-10°C with fish, creamy chicken dishes or soft cheeses.

Vinification Details

The different grape varieties are harvested at optimal maturity. A 6-8 hour period of pre-fermentation skin contact for the Gros Manseng grapes in order to extract aromas from the skins. Free-run wine is obtained through gentle pressing in a pneumatic press. Slight settling before the alcoholic fermentation process is started. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a temperature maintained between18°C and 20°C. No malolactic fermentation.

History

In the heart of South-West France, in a beautifully-preserved region, the appellation of Saint Mont stretches out to the foothills of the Pyrenees. Benedictine monks grew vines in the 11th century as can be seen today from the Monastery which dominates the village of Saint Mont. A cool, damp spring allows local grape varieties to reach full maturity during a hot, dry late-summer season. Cultivated surface area: 1250 hectares

Situated in the heart of South-West France, the Plaimont vineyards stretch from the foothills of the Pyrenees to the hills and valleys of Gascony covering a uniquely rich terroir. A thousand winegrowers defend the ideals of a cooperative and are committed to managing their vineyards with respect for both the environment and their own time-honoured traditions. With a combination of local grape varieties, knowledge and rigorous hard work, the members of Plaimont have succeeded in producing extremely high quality wines from the terroirs of Madiran, Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh, Saint Mont and Côtes de Gascogne.
