Description

A Gabb Family Wine Sheep Hill Sauv Blanc 75cl Sheep Hill Sauvignon Blanc takes its name from the Schapenberg Hills, where many moons ago shepherds would come with their sheep and watch for boats laden with produce arriving in the bay. Elegant and refined, with a touch of summer fruit, this is a carefully curated wine by winemaker Ben Jordaan.
South African wine has a history dating back to 1659, over 365 years. The Gabb Family have been in the wine industry since 1980, and started producing South African wine in 1994, after seeing it's potential due to the climate and ancient soils. Every bottle they produce supports the nearby community in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, whilst also respecting the environment through solar and water management initiatives, and local wildlife/native plants through land set aside on the farm for conservation.
Bringing beautiful, hand-picked wines from the sunny Western Cape in South Africa, to you.

Vinification Details

The grapes are hand and machine harvested in the cool, early hours of the morning and processed immediately, they are then sorted and destemmed before being pressed. The short supply from vine to press ensures minimal degradation of the fruit aromas. Free run juice and press juices are kept separate from each other, the press juices are cold fermented in small stainless-steel tanks with a specific yeast strain to enhance the fruit character. The wines are then blended, stabilized and bottled.

Regional Information

The vineyards are located in the Western Cape wine region, on north facing slopes, where you'll find well drained deep sandy soil with river rocks. Drip irrigation is used and the vines are trained on an extended 7 Strand Perold trellis system. All vines are sustainably farmed.
