Product Details

Chardonnay - White Australian Wine

A wine of both quality and value - full flavoured and creamy, with flavours of melon and peach and a hint of vanilla.

The Koonunga Hill name has carried Penfolds to the four corners of the wine-loving world, offering an extraordinary combination of quality, value and consistency of style.

Founder, Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold emigrated from England to Adelaide in 1844, bringing with him vine cuttings from the South of France. He established the Magill vineyard and winery, marking the beginning of one of the worlds great wine stories Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay is sourced from multiple Australian wine districts including significant contributions from the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley. The fruit is ripe and shows good varietal character. This wine was fermented and matured in seasoned French Oak "This year's Koonunga Hill Chardonnay is very clean and totally balanced. No criticisms at all. Spot on." Matthew Jukes - May 2008.

Vinification Details

Autumn and winter rainfall was above the long-term average. Rain stopped abruptly in early August with nothing more than light and infrequent showers observed throughout spring. Canopy growth was resultantly halted early in the season, setting up an open canopy structure. Mild days coupled with cool nights provided consistent conditions from late-January through to March, allowing fruit to reach optimal ripeness whilst retaining natural acidity.
