The New Tesco Westport officially opens its doors with a little help from Cora Staunton, Mayo Ladies Gaelic football player.
On Monday 3rd December 2007 the new Tesco store in Westport officially opened its doors to a crowd of eagerly awaiting customers. On hand to help Store Manager Stephen Corrigan cut the opening ribbon in celebration was Cora Staunton, Mayo full forward and local VIP for the day, Bridie O'Malley from Kilmeena in Westport. The store will be a great boost for the town creating additional 150 new jobs for Westport.
The new store will offer a wide selection of new ranges to customers including; Domestic Electrical Appliances, Health and Beauty, Homewares, Family Clothing (including Cherokee and F&F), Babycare, DIY, and a home entertainment area with the all latest CD, Video, books and DVD releases on offer. Computers and printers will also be available in store, with well-known brands such as JVC, Panasonic and Sony.
On the grocery end, customers can enjoy a dedicated hot deli and chicken, cooked meats and cheese counters; freshly baked breads are also available at the store bakery. The store will also stock specialist ranges which include Vegetarian, Organic, Tesco Finest*, Tesco Healthy Living, Kids and a dedicated Polish Food range.
Tesco Westport will also offers customers a large range of shopping trolleys, for a wider variety of shopping needs - from smaller shops to the larger full-scale family shop.
Speaking at the opening store manager Stephen Corrigan said, "All the Tesco Westport team are delighted that Cora and so many local people could be here today to support the opening of our new Westport store. We are confident that customers will enjoy and benefit from this new shopping experience in the town".
