| About Tesco Ireland | |
|
Tesco is Ireland's leading food retailer operating in 107 stores across the country; an independent subsidiary of Tesco plc the company has been trading in Ireland since 1997. In that time our core retail business has expanded to now include clothing, household, entertainment and other non-food ranges. We also offer customers an online grocery shopping service, financial services products and petrol retailing. We recently entered the Irish mobile market with the launch of Tesco Mobile. Doing business with the Irish food industry and supporting the local economy, have been very much part of the Tesco ethos in Ireland. We are the largest single buyer of Irish food products in the world, spending an aggregate of over €1.28 billion on Irish products and services annually, and 50% of our food range here is Irish produced. Developing export opportunities for Irish food in Tesco Britain has been very important too. We now account for Irish food exports of €654.8 million per annum (2006), making us the second largest export market for Irish food, behind only Britain generally but more significant than France, Germany, USA or Holland. We have always actively participated in the local communities and in the towns where we operate. The Tesco Computers for Schools Programme has provided over €10 million worth of computer equipment for primary and secondary schools across the country. Ronan O'Gara is a patron of the hugely popular Sport for Schools iniative which is now entering its third year. The highly successful Charity of the Year Programme, where Tesco staff work with their customers in their local communities has raised in excess of €6 million for charitable causes since 2001. Beneficiaries include The Irish Cancer Society, MS Ireland, Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Down Syndrome Ireland, Child Line, the Irish Hospice Foundation and Temple Street Children's University Hospital. This year's Charity of the Year is the Make a Wish Foundation of Ireland. Senior Management: Chief Executive - Tony Keohane About Tesco plc
