Bantry House was bought by the White family in 1765, and was enlarged by Richard White, the 2nd Earl of Bantry. It is now lived in and owned by the Shelswell-White family, who are descendants of the Earls of Bantry.
The House has a fine and eclectic collection of tapestries, furniture and art treasures. The Gardens have been partly-restored and are home to sub-tropical plants and shrubs. Restoration is on-going.
The House, Gardens and Tearoom are open to the public, along with an exhibition centre explaining the history of the 1796 Invasion of the French Armada.
Bantry House also offers Bed and Breakfast accommodation in the wings of the main house. Self-catering accommodation is offered for rental weekly in the newly-restored and refurbished Gate Lodge, which sleeps four guests comfortably.
Bantry |House has two helipad landing areas. We also facilitate any team-building adventures, such as Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting, Falconry etc.
The Library, when available, is used for private functions.
It opens out onto the Gardens, with the Hundred Steps and the ancient Wisteria Circle in full view.
Bantry House is host to the annual West Cork Music Festival and holds concerts monthly.
